Abstract
Amyand¡¯s hernia is an inguinal hernia containing the vermiform appendix within the hernia sac. It is a rare condition found in approximately 1% of all inguinal hernia cases. Moreover, appendicitis within the hernia sac is observed in even <0.1% of all appendicitis cases. The clinical presentation can vary depending on the extent of inflammation in the hernia sac. This paper reports a case of Amyand¡¯s hernia in a 78-year-old male who underwent robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy 27 months previously. Subsequently, the operation revealed an incarcerated appendix within a direct inguinal hernia. Furthermore, appendicitis was treated by appendectomy through the herniotomy with hernioplasty using the Prolene Hernia System mesh at the same incision.
